SOT

SOT refers to Sacro Occipital Technique and is so named due to the relationship between the 2 bones at either end of the spine i.e. the sacrum and the occiput.

SOT concerns itself primarily with the cranial-sacral respiratory mechanism and the central nervous system. The cranial-sacral respiratory mechanism is recognized as a primary function of life in the body

Like other chiropractic techniques, SOT also corrects abnormal spinal mechanics and any associated nerve problems. These can include back pain, headaches, dizziness, arm and leg pains and general health issues.

SOT and SOT Cranial is a method of chiropractic care that identifies the cause of your symptoms.

An SOT chiropractor knowledgeably analyses your body to determine underlying

  • Spinal
  • Cranial, and
  • Organ-related problems

The SOT indicators enable the practitioner to monitor the effectiveness of the adjustments and tell when to change the approach.

The Category System of Patient Analysis

The category system refers to what primary system is dysfunctional as described by Dr. M.B. DeJarnette of Nebraska. Category 1 occurs when the sacro-illiac joint becomes misaligned, or subluxated. This has the effect of rotating the hips, tilting the sacrum and distorting the nervous system. When the sacrum tilts it reduces its pumping ability. The reduction of the normal sacral pump means cerebro spinal fluid does not circulate as effectively. This may lead to lack on nutrition and an increased toxicity of the nervous system.

Category II happens when ligaments which hold the sacro-illiac joint are stretched or sprained, allowing the joint surfaces to separate. This disturbs the bodies balance, nervous system and results in extensive muscle adaption throughout the whole body. Category III involves the intervertebral discs (which are the shock absorbers between the spinal bones) and their blood supply. This is the category of most acute low back pain or sciatic patients. SOT has special procedures for the gentle care of these patients that is both effective and safe

The cranial-sacral mechanism is a combination of integrated functions that support, nourish and enhance the performance of the nervous system as it controls bodily functions.

Each category has specific cranial imbalances which are addressed with each visit.

Included in SOT is Chiropractic Manipulation Reflex Technique (CMRT). CMRT is a system of organ function analysis and treatment as it relates to the nervous system. This method not only allows you to find the major vertebral subluxation but also the degree of involvement. CMRT teaches a method of adjusting the vertebrae subluxation along with soft tissue reflexes to nourish the organ. CMRT allows the SOT Chiropractor to take a whole person approach to health

Extremity techniques are taught in SOT as part of its core curriculum since they are part of the weight-bearing system and can influence how your body functions.
